This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach Autistic Support in a self-contained, urban school. I work with students in grades kindergarten through 2nd, and my kids are the sweetest bunch that you could ever meet! With 4 students who are non-vocal, we work on verbal behavior skills and beginning academics (phonemic awareness, early numeracy). Utilizing ABA practices, my staff and I strive to provide my students with a safe, inclusive, and encouraging work environment where they can grow, learn, and have fun.
Sensory stimulation and self-regulation are big things that we focus on in my classroom, and these swings would provide my students with opportunities for both of those things.
The students in my class are heavily motivated by sensory stimulation, and a swing would be something that they would enjoy so much! The swing saucer would provide a way for them to rock back and forth while laying down, and multiple students could even swing at one time. The swing "pod" could provide the students with another way to rock back and forth while hiding, which cancels out a lot of the stimulation that comes from the light. With your help, we can provide them with these opportunities!
