This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their strength, their heart, and the way they show up for each other every single day, despite the many challenges they face. Our school is a Title I school in a city impacted by high poverty and crime, and many of our students come from homes where resources are limited and stress is high. But when they come to school, especially to the field, they come alive.

Softball is our way of building connections.

It doesn’t matter what language you speak, where you come from, or what you're going through—on the field, everyone belongs.

This project falls under warmth, hunger, and care—three things our students need and deserve:

Warmth: A welcoming, safe space where they feel included and supported.

Hunger: Not just for food, but for opportunity—to grow, to lead, to learn.

Care: Providing real tools and resources shows students that their success matters to someone.

Here’s how each item will help:

Batting Tees will help us teach skills to all learners, especially beginners, building their confidence one swing at a time.

Softballs give every child a chance to practice, make mistakes, and try again. They are essential for skill-building and team play.

The 7x7 Practice Net provides a safe and efficient way for students to train in small groups or during class rotations, maximizing time, space, and safety.

This is more than just a sports unit. It’s a community. And with your help, we’re creating something powerful: a space where every child feels seen, valued, and ready to thrive.
