This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a Title I high school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of our students do not have the funds to pay for sports equipment necessary for training. Many of our students do not have computer access at home, so our school library is their main access to books, computers, periodicals, and information resources. They say it takes a village, and these kids need a village.
We have a diverse population of student-athletes, being a minority-majority district, and they are faced with many challenges that come with being economically disadvantaged.
They are dedicated to their sport, but lack access to the necessary resources that would allow them to take their talents to the next level.
My Project
Our swim team is young, but growing, so they are in need of basic swimming equipment and can't always afford to buy their own suits, caps, kick-boards, pull-buoys, towels, and goggles.
Swimmers are at a disadvantage if they are unable to see the end of the lanes, so our students would really appreciate having new Speedo anti-fog goggles that will last the season and keep them swimming.
Since caps and goggles can easily go missing during the swim team season, we would like to have an extra set of goggles on hand so that that swimmers will never be without during practice or swim meets.
