This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a Title I high school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of our students do not have the funds to pay for sports equipment necessary for swim team training. They say it takes a village, and these kids need a village.
We have a diverse population of students, being a minority-majority district, and they are faced with many challenges that come with being economically disadvantaged.
They are dedicated to their sport, but lack access to the necessary resources to take their talents to the next level.
My Project
We are building our school swim team from the ground up and we need everything from towels to pull-buoys and swimsuits to fins, to keep our kids working out in the pool and warming up on the deck. Many of our young swimmers are new to the sport and do not have access to a pool, nor do they have any of the equipment necessary to train harder and at a more competitive level.
By having a team set of swim fins, we can make sure our swimmers have the proper gear for effective training that will make them stronger and more competitive in the pool.
