Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A cotton candy machine may seem like a simple treat-maker, but in the hands of a creative and motivated student government, it becomes a powerful tool for building school spirit, fostering community, and energizing campus events. For a small public high school, this colorful addition can help transform ordinary moments into memorable experiences.

Whether it’s back-to-school night, open house, or a local fundraiser, offering free or low-cost cotton candy can attract families and community members to participate in school events.

It creates a festive atmosphere and gives Student Government a unique way to connect with stakeholders.

School dances, pep rallies, spirit weeks, and athletic games get an instant upgrade with the sweet scent and bright colors of freshly spun cotton candy. It adds a nostalgic carnival feel that students love, helping increase attendance and enthusiasm at school events.

Selling cotton candy at events like football games, movie nights, or talent shows can raise funds for future Student Government initiatives, such as school improvements, student recognition programs, or class trips, without requiring a big upfront investment.

Operating the machine provides a hands-on way for Student Government members to practice teamwork, leadership, and event planning. It also gives students a visible, approachable way to interact with their peers, helping build trust and interest in student leadership.

With a cotton candy machine, Student Government can start new traditions that students look forward to each year, like “Cotton Candy Fridays” during spirit week or free treats for students who achieve academic goals or demonstrate kindness.

In short, a cotton candy machine is more than a novelty—it's a tool for connection, creativity, and community building that empowers student leaders to create a sweeter, more spirited school culture.
