Sweet Treats and Prizes

Help me give my students a fun gumball machine where they can earn gum as well as other prizes through hard work and good behavior.

My Project

I am super excited to be moving to third grade next school year after teaching fourth grade for eight years. I would like to start the school year off strong with a variety of candy and prizes my students will be able to earn because everybody deserves a little treat now and then.

I know students are super motivated by a variety of rewards so I would like to be able to offer my sweet 3rd graders a variety of incentives they can work for, not just candy.

These incentives will not only be used for rewarding good behavior, but also in rewarding hard workers, or improvement in a certain area as well as for team building activities at the beginning of the year and for some math activities throughout the year. For example, I use the M&M's and Skittles in my fractions unit in math. Students can earn a gumball from the gumball machine by mastering and passing each of their multiplication fact fluency tests. I will use the desk pet erasers and water bottle stickers as a reward for filling up their punch cards for good behavior. The candy will be a great motivator for other things throughout the school year, like academic improvement or getting a 100% on their math comprehension checks or just by showing they are respectful, responsible, and safe (our school motto).
