Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) positions are some of the top potential careers in our nation. These highly coveted jobs require preparing students to be creative problem solvers. Our school district is determined to provide our students with opportunities for experiences with STEM to allow them to follow their passions for these careers in the future.
Our middle school is preparing students for future success with staff teaching full STEM curriculum.
Students are excited and engaged by the curriculum, ready to explore what is on the horizon. Students are so passionate about the lessons and activities that they go well beyond the expectations to showcase amazing skills and talents.
In my curriculum, we explore STEM with aspects of chemistry, nanotechnology, and simple machines. Students are always excited to apply themselves to the lessons. Examples of student work include designing furniture, cleaning up oil spills, experimenting with nanotechnology, even making ice cream!
Students in my course explore a variety of content in STEM, and love to enjoy our hands-on activities often.
To that effect, students are able to explore chemistry with making homemade ice cream in bags. This is a messy process, but with these ice cream balls, students can still make ice cream with a whole lot less mess and more freedom to be active while making ice cream.
