This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Aloha! I am a first year teacher in Maui and I am hoping to give my students everything that they need to succeed, because they deserve it. My class works very hard and they are so passionate about playing in band. They often even stay in the band room to practice outside of class hours, such as before school and during recess. The things that our intermediate band needs are Sterisol, slide grease, cork grease, clarinet swabs, flute cleaning rods with cleaning cloths, oboe swabs, oboe reeds, and conductor baton.

The way in which most of these items will be used is to clean and maintain the instruments, which is essential to the longevity of the instruments' lifespans.

The conductor baton is important in directing the band because it enhances the body movements, making it easier for students to watch what the conductor is directing them to do. My goal for this project is to have a functioning band. Many of our instruments are not fully functioning because they have not been taken care of properly, and I want to avoid this for our currently working instruments.
