My Project

"What are we doing today?" rings daily in my ears every hour and every hour, I ask my students, "What AREN'T we doing today?" My culinary career classes are so much more than a weekly cooking lesson. My goal is to excite my students with lessons about life skills, goals, and career aspirations. I want my students to learn that opportunities do exist and with hard work anything is possible.

Entrepreneurship is our main goal this year.

My advanced students have passed the torch of our Annual Cake pop sale to my beginning students and came up with the idea of selling and serving soft serve frozen yogurt at all school functions to learn business skills as well as offering a low-fat yummy treat to students, faculty, and parents.

Our diverse school population is 80% free or reduced lunch. Most of my students have never had the opportunity to engage in entrepreneurship and learn the pride of starting a REAL WORLD project that teaches financial literacy and produces a delicious product. My culinary courses are not funded unless the students bring in a lab fee. The majority of my students' families do not have the means to pay the lab fee, so much of our Sweet Dreams enterprise will fund kitchen labs and field trips to grocery stores, restaurants, and more.

My student's also realize it is important to give back to the community, so we have adopted a 2 mile stretch of highway near our school. I am very proud of my underserved students and I know with your generous support and donations, we all will be teaching a great group of students how to dream BIG!
