Help me give my students a sweet and encouraging start to the new school year by rewarding their efforts and good choices with candy and "Caught Being Good" bracelets.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are typical kids. They love to laugh, dance, draw, and play. My school is a Title I school, which means all of the students who come to my classroom every day, come from low-income households.
Many of them are not physically, mentally, or emotionally prepared for learning every morning.
Many do not have working electricity or running water. Most do not have an adult at home checking their school bag every night and helping with homework.
I have the uphill challenge of not only teaching them academic subjects but teaching them that they are safe and loved every day they are in my classroom.
My students need to be engaged, motivated, and supported to grow as independent and lifelong learners. I work tirelessly to meet the needs of my students academic, social, and emotional needs.
My Project
My students love to be rewarded for trying their best. Throughout the day my students are rewarded for their effort, persistence, and for providing other students with support. When they are working hard individually, with a partner, or in a small group, they are rewarded with a piece of candy and blue ticket (blue tickets are a part of a school wide incentive program). Additionally, I reward the Student of the Week with a certificate and bracelet.
These little rewards go a very long way in motivating and encouraging my students to work hard and to never give up and ALWAYS brings a smile to their faces.
When I reach for the candy jar, you can see them working just a little harder, helping each other just a little bit more, and focusing on the task at hand just a little bit deeper.
