Swamp Park Scientists

My students need to learn about our NC wetlands and wildlife through real experiences! We need admission to the Shallotte River Swamp Park.

My Students

My students come from a variety of economic and social backgrounds. Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our district. I have students in my classroom who have never been in an American classroom. Despite their difficulties in life, they always show up with a smile on their faces. They love school and love learning! In my classroom, I want to provide our students with endless opportunities to learn hands-on and to activate their minds by movement. My students do not have the means to purchase supplies or pay for field trip experiences. Field trips are so important to my students because, for many of them, it's the first time they have explored our city! Field trips provide them with meaningful learning experiences that they will cherish for years!

My Project

Students will ride on a Swamp Boat Ecotour to experience the amazing swamp and the wildlife that depends on it. They will go on a guided nature walk and get up close and personal with some reptiles! Many of our students have never had the opportunity to experience the swamp ecosystem, even though it surrounds our area! My students will also get to see many of the alligators that depend on this unique ecosystem. Students will also take part in the aerial ropes course where some will face their fears and bravely climb through the trees! They will learn so much from this field experience.
