My Students
Our school's band program has been incredibly fortunate to have high quality musical instruments in the hands of all of our students. While our students are diligent in maintaining our instruments, it is a difficult task without proper cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Our students are band magnet students who have a unique commitment to improving musically.
Many of them are selected to move on to the Youth Performing Arts School upon completion of our program. Our students hold positions in community music organizations, JCPS all-county bands, as well as regional and national honor bands. Our bands consistently receive distinguished ratings at all KMEA performance events.
Our students are taught to maintain the school instruments and do an outstanding job with the tools they have. Instrument cleaning supplies do run out, and that's where you can help!
My Project
The resources requested include:
Woodwind instrument swabs, used to absorb moisture after each rehearsal extending the life of the pads on each key.
Lubricants, valve oil and slide grease are as vital to the functionality of a musical instrument as motor oil is to your car.
Polishing cloths, for lacquer and silver instruments allow for the removal of skin oils from the metal extending the life and cosmetic appearance of the instrument.
Brass snakes, allow students to clean the inside of brass instruments, which can become a breeding ground for germs if not cleaned regularly.
Reed guards, help students extend the life of the reeds they use to play woodwind instruments, saving their families and the band program money on replacement reed costs.
Musical instruments are very expensive!
We are very fortunate to have a quality supply of musical instruments for our students. Proper care and maintenance of these instruments is essential to extending their life and multiplying the number of students these instruments can inspire!
