This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I have 30 wonderful, hard working first grade students in Yuma, Arizona. Yuma is a rural area in the very Southwest corner of Arizona. These diverse students come from different backgrounds. They bring different experiences and knowledge to the classroom. We have students who come from military families. We have students who are learning English as a second language. There are high expectations for these first graders. However, I know they will work hard to meet their goals.
My Project
Students need different resources to help them learn all the content in first grade. Students learn the content during whole group, small group, and one on one lessons. The materials for the project will help give each student the chance to be engaged in the first grade curriculum.
I am asking for headphones so students are able to listen to their iPads during their listening center time.
Also, I am asking for stylus pens so it is easier for students to tap and select items on the iPads. I asked for a classroom rug for our whole group writing time. The students will meet on the rug to go over how to write sentences and stories. The privacy folders will help students to work on their papers independently with less distractions. The science learning centers will be wonderful to have in the classroom. Students are so excited when we start learning about plants, the Earth, magnets, and other science curriculum. The science learning centers will give the students extra hands on practice with experiments and information about the content. Other materials such as the crayons, pencils, and copy paper will give all students an opportunity to participate in the lessons and learn the first grade content.
