Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my high school math classroom. Using the Building Thinking Classroom model in math, students go to vertical whiteboards throughout the room to discover math concepts. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and after continual use, the boards start to smear when erased. When something goes awry, students know that they must find a new marker, eraser, or spray. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction form either myself or other students. By having more markers, new erasers, and more spray our learning will not be distracted for as long.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not on if they have materials that are working. Plus, in a world where so much of our work is done collaboratively, teaching my students to work with others in a safe and controlled environment is a high priority of mine!
