This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is very diverse. The diversity can be seen in both the ethnicity and economic levels of our students. Our student athletes continue to try to compete at the level of other schools in our district, but, that alone is not enough when their supply and gear are from when the school opened in 2000.

We are in need of upgrading our gear to be able to stay competitive and keep our kids safe.

My Project

The culture here at our high school requires students to demonstrate a certain fortitude that not many other high school students have. Currently our student-athletes have qualified for some of the top Track and Field meets in the State. Our school is a low-income school, so we find that a lot of our budget is spent on buying gear, food and transportation for our program. Getting our students to these prestigious meets where they can hopefully get recruited or at least noticed could possibly set them up for their future.

Our athletes are forced to use old broken supplies that are taped together and force to carry their implements to every meet.

Our pole vault with an old cross car that has been taped together over the last 5 years, causing as safety hazard for our athletes if they are to accidently land on the bar.

Our poor throwers have to carry several heavy implements to every meet which can weight over 100lbs before they even though. The throwers generally always have the longest walk of all the track athletes with all this extra weight. We are asking for a durable wagon to help lighten the load on our athletes as they travel across the track to their several events.
