Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my class, there are 17 bright and strong-willed students who love to learn, grow and look forward to coming to school everyday. As a teacher in a low income, Title I school, I see that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite this fact, they are very motivated to learn and want to make a better life for themselves.
About half of the students in my class are English language learners, meaning that English is their second language.
All of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Some students have tough home lives and may not know when or if they will get their next meal. Despite these setbacks, I am determined to focus on giving my students the best educational experience I can. I always focus on their potential and I’m confident that they will learn and grow in my classroom. I may not be able to control the environment outside of school, but I can make their time here fun, engaging and positive. My hope is to inspire these students to be lifetime learners and always have a thirst for knowledge.
My Project
These items will help my students to be engaged and learn in individual stations while I am working with a small group of students. The math games will help them gain fluency in their math facts. This will help them gain confidence and develop the ability to quickly answer larger addition and subtraction problems.
Since most of my students are English language learners whose first language is Spanish, they need help in creating correct sentences while speaking and writing.
The sentence builder activity will be a great tool for us to use to help build that up!
Lastly, the dry erase markers and headphones are key aspects in my classroom everyday! We use dry erase markers multiple times in a day, whether in stations, during math, or even for phonics. We greatly need new headphones that work correctly, so that while working on online activities, my students are better able to hear and comprehend what is being said by the online resources that we use, and help them concentrate on what they are learning.
