Supporting Students with Big Emotions through SEL-Oriented Rewards

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Positive reinforcement and emotional support are essential for the social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health of our students. I am seeking donations to provide my students with various engaging items, including stuffed animals, Stitch party favors, squishy toys, stickers, and slime. These materials will be integral in helping students manage their emotions, build resilience, and develop positive behaviors.
In our classroom, I will use these items as part of a comprehensive SEL program.
When students demonstrate positive behaviors, such as showing kindness, perseverance, or teamwork, they will earn points via classdojo that can be redeemed for these rewards. This system not only motivates students to strive for their best but also helps them understand the value of effort and patience.
Stuffed animals can offer significant emotional support, providing comfort and a sense of security for students dealing with stress or anxiety. Having a calming presence like a stuffed animal can help them focus and feel more engaged in their learning environment. Squishy toys and slime are excellent for sensory play, aiding students in managing their emotions by providing a tactile outlet for stress relief.
Stickers and Stitch party favors will serve as fun, immediate rewards for smaller achievements, encouraging students to stay motivated and recognize their daily successes. These items are particularly popular among our students, making them highly effective in promoting positive behavior.
By integrating these materials into our classroom, we aim to create an environment where students feel supported emotionally and are encouraged to develop essential SEL skills.
