I work with students who have communication impairments, ranging in grades from transitional kindergarten to fifth grade. Some have cognitive impairments, some have physical limitations, many are considered neuro-diverse and have sensory differences, and all have some level of communication deficit.
These students require extra assistance to appropriately and effectively communicate with others, and access the world around them.
My students are kind and hard working, and deserve materials that will help support their needs. Due to school closures and the need to provide services virtually, these students need even more support to help bridge the gap and make learning more equitable. This project will support low-income elementary aged students at a public school in California that has limited resources.
My Project
This project will assist students who need much more support than their typically developing peers, and will need a variety of virtual learning tools to enhance their ability to learn from home. These materials, however, will be difficult to obtain given the financial struggles within our school system.
These materials will heighten attention span and increase learning opportunities.
The cell phone holder will help my students view virtual therapy lessons from their home, and it will also provide a way for me to virtually assess students when evaluations are needed. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will give me funds to purchase digital materials to enhance communications skills. The other portion of funds would go toward children’s books. These literacy-based materials will help my students understand the world around them, build on social-emotional learning, and encourage literacy skills needed to succeed in school.
