Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-year school social worker, I am seeking support in obtaining books, games, snacks, and other supplies to enhance my work in supporting students' mental health and well-being at the elementary level.
I use various modalities such as narration, play, art, and mindfulness in my psychotherapeutic work.
The items listed in this project will help support the students I have the privilege of working with. Having access to books related to social-emotional learning helps young people process difficult concepts. Art and play allow for kids to be kids while learning. Fidgets and toys are a great positive reinforcement for some students who need extrinsic motivation, while they also provide a great means of exerting energy, especially for neurodivergent students. Hungry students are unable to learn and regulate emotions, so having snacks allows me to meet their most basic needs before trying to help them regulate.
