Help me give my students who are struggling to read a variety of resources that will help to bridge the gap between where they are and where they need to be.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every year, I am assigned a class of students with mixed-abilities. This means that I might have students who range from proficient readers to those who are still learning how, and oftentimes struggling, to read. I have many resources to teach and advance my students who are performing at grade level, but I cannot say the same for when it comes to helping my lower, struggling readers. I frequently feel a bit lost when it comes to pulling resources for my readers who are performing 1 - 2 years behind grade level. Thus, I am in need of teaching materials that are easier for these students to access as well as easy for me to use.
The donations to this project will help my struggling readers by providing them with resources that meets them where they currently are rather than where they're expected to be.
I plan to use these vocabulary cards when I pull my struggling readers for 1-on-1 or small-group instruction. I'm also thinking about sending some of the fluency and reading comprehension passages as homework! I'm hoping that by being able to assign students work that is catered to their level and needs, they'll have more chances to feel successful in the classroom.
