This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom community is made up of a diverse group of kindergarten students who vary in ethnicity, home language, socioeconomic status, and learning style.
We are committed to creating equitable learning environments in which all children can grow academically and socially.
We believe in a rigorous curriculum and aim to support student learning through project-based learning. These projects will help us demonstrate our learning in ways that are meaningful to us. Students are given the opportunity to direct their own learning and are empowered to express their understanding in their unique way.
My Project
Kindergarten is a special time where students are absorbing and applying so much new learning. We have learned letters and sounds, and are engaging daily with phonemic awareness activities and explicit phonics lessons.
It is pivotal that students have a solid foundation in phonics to support their reading skills.
These decodables will help support small group learning and provide strategic texts that include the target phonics skills. It is a challenge to find texts that allow students to practice phonics skills in a systematic way. We look forward to deepening and applying our phonics knowledge with these texts.
