Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting art supplies, books, and decorative items that represent the diverse backgrounds of my students. This year we welcomed new students from Colombia, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Our bilingual class was so excited to meet them and learn more about their homes and experiences. In our class, we have students from Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala.

It is great to see my students show so much interest in their friends and have genuine curiosity and excitement when learning about other cultures.

Students have so much pride and love to talk about their culture and country. My hope is that with country-specific non-fiction and fiction books, students will feel included and form connections. Students can read books that remind them of home and/or share these stories or facts with their friends. With this project, students will also be about to see their country's flag represented and complete art projects with more than one option for skin tones. I would like my students to continue learning from and about other cultures with joy and empathy.
