This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students with autism and intellectual disabilities are hard working and resilient! They show up everyday, doing and being their best selves despite their disabilities and home life.

I would use an iPad as one learning tool using various educational apps/programs to increase and encourage engagement, developmental grasps, letter formation/orientation, left/right discrimination and visual scanning/tracking skills.

My students enjoy using the apps Writing Wizard, LetterSchool, Light Box, Whiteboard, Dexteria and LetterReflex to name a few. I try to encourage the use of a stencil to promote a 3 or 4 point grasp. Often times, pencil to paper tasks are non-preferred and doesn't provide enough feedback (such as auditory and visual feedback) for these students.

I plan to use the other sensory and fine motor tools/toys to encourage engagement, to improve on letter formation/sizing/alignment/orientation, texture tolerance, life skills, bilateral hand coordination, developmental grasps and most importantly, to have fun while learning!

My students deserve access to the best education, which includes access to technology and various educational materials. Your financial assistance will make a tremendous impact on my students learning and growth.
