Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The monitor will be used to display guided mindfulness programs, helping students with special needs develop social skills and manage stress in a structured way. Additionally, the aromatherapy, sensory light tiles, and bean bag chair will create a comforting environment, offering sensory experiences that aid in de-escalation and emotional regulation. Together, these tools will help students regain focus, enhance their emotional well-being, and improve their ability to engage in learning.

The goal of this project is to create a multisensory space that supports the social and emotional growth of students with special needs.

By combining guided mindfulness programs with calming elements like aromatherapy, sensory light tiles, and a bean bag chair, we aim to provide a safe and soothing environment. This space will help students manage their emotions, reduce stress, and develop the social skills necessary for success in both school and life.

As a school psychologist working in an inner-city, low SES community, I see firsthand the resilience and strength of my students. Despite facing significant challenges such as economic hardship, trauma, and limited resources, they show a remarkable ability to persevere and strive for success. Their determination to overcome obstacles and their potential for growth make them incredibly special. My role is to provide the support and resources they need to develop essential social and emotional skills, helping them not only succeed in school but also navigate the complexities of their lives with confidence and resilience.
