This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The decodable readers I’m requesting will provide my high school students with age-appropriate, accessible texts that allow them to strengthen their reading skills at a foundational level. Unlike traditional high school books, these readers are designed specifically for students who need focused practice in decoding and fluency, offering a structured path to improve literacy in a way that doesn’t feel juvenile. By meeting students at their current skill level, these books help build confidence and promote steady progress, enabling them to tackle more complex texts across subjects over time. These materials will directly support a positive reading experience and foster a genuine love for learning, helping students become more independent readers.
My primary goal is to give all my students the tools to become confident, proficient readers, regardless of their starting point.
This project aims to provide them with decodable texts that gradually increase in complexity, empowering them to improve their decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. Another goal is to foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment where students feel confident in taking risks with reading, knowing they have resources that meet them exactly where they are. Ultimately, I hope to see measurable growth in their literacy skills, setting them up for success not just in English class, but in all areas of their education.
My students are resilient, determined, and full of potential. Many of them have faced challenges in learning to read, yet they continue to show up eager to learn and improve. Each of them brings a unique perspective and a deep motivation to grow, often balancing school with work, family responsibilities, or other personal challenges. They inspire me daily with their perseverance and openness to learning, and I am committed to providing them with every resource possible to help them reach their goals.
