Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our diverse school in Brooklyn, we are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. Many of our students are native Spanish speakers. They are wonderful, energetic and always curious, and enjoy our interdisciplinary, project-based, arts and technology infused curriculum. Our goal is to create an inclusive, stimulating, collaborative environment where all children feel supported and loved. Creating spaces where school is seen as an extension of home is one way we achieve this goal.
My Project
The charging station, extension cord and headphones will all allow for students to have regular access to the Chromebooks and iPads that have been donated to our classroom. It has been shown that one way all students can be supported in their independent reading, grow their vocabulary and improve their comprehension is through the use of audiobooks and animated books.
Students learn in a variety of ways and these materials will allow them to be supported in their literacy using a multisensory approach.
The sandpaper will be used in two different ways during our phonics work in order to meet the needs of students who learn in a more kinesthetic/tactile way. Students will place the sandpaper underneath the paper they are writing on in order to better help them remember the sounds of the letters they are writing. They will also use the sandpaper to write sight words with their finger before writing them down on paper.
