Supporting Learners of the 21st Century

My students need flexible seating options and organizational tools to support a safe learning environment.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade students attend the biggest elementary school in Utah with over 1,000 students from Pre-K to 6th grade. All four of the 5th grade classrooms are in portables behind the school, as well as two 6th fourth grade classrooms since our school is so large! 70% of these students qualify for free or reduced lunch. However, these students have goals and want to achieve greatness, but lack the tools that are necessary. They want to learn and understand. They want to grow and ask questions. I want to help provide them with these tools so they can achieve their potential.

My Project

These materials will be added to some of the flexible seating options I have collected in the past. Flexible seating allows students to learn in an environment that is comfortable to them. The different stools, chairs, yoga balls, and plush animals help students focus on their learning rather than get distracted. The iris 6 drawer organizers will be used in lieu of student desks and the glue does/Velcro will allow me to label all of the things in my classroom so that flexible seating can be as organized as possible. The spring scissors will help me be more productive while helping and preparing for my students, while the pool noodle connectors will be used to connect noodles to create a stable mat for yoga balls.

Learners of the 21st century have more things to worry about so having a welcoming classroom is essential to putting their minds at ease.

My students are blessed enough to also have 1:1 Chromebooks and I would like to support their learning through this technology by supplying earbuds with microphones to allow them to record themselves and make interactive presentations. Track pads have also proven difficult for my students who have difficulties with fine motor skills. A class set of computer mice will be very beneficial and streamline their productivity.
