Supporting individual Social/Emotional and Behavioral Needs Through Guided Activities.
My students need access of self-guided activities that they can use to help support their individual needs. These workbooks cover the multiple concerns and struggles individuals students face and can also be used in a group.
Our school is full of eager learners and engaged citizens, they create a positive environment and contribute their individual talents and skills to the climate of our school. We also have students that need more support to connect and encourage to taking advantage of the benefits of education.
My students come to school with many gifts to offer; a sharp intellect, creativity, a sense of humor, skilled athleticism, a loyal friend, these just scrape the surface of how they contribute to our school.
As a school counselor I get to connect and try to encourage them to identify and use these amazing skills to apply them to successful learning skills and how they will contribute to success in life.
My Project
My students have an array of concerns and struggles that impact their lives and learning. These books will create a library of activities that will support their individual needs as well as topics identified by data for school-wide SEL support. These activities that can be used individually, in groups or even a classroom lesson. For example, one of the books is 'Mindfulness for Teen Anxiety: A Workbook for Overcoming Anxiety at Home, at School, and Everywhere Else (An Instant Help Book for Teens)'- at least 10% of my counseling referrals pertain to anxiety, this book and the activities will allow me to help these students process and apply coping strategies for their anxiety. Also, 'The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens: Activities to Help You Build Confidence and Achieve Your Goals' can be used in a small group or advisory classroom setting to use with multiple students to help with concerns that we know that most students face.
As middle school students become more independent they need support that they can engage in and control.
These workbooks offer a chance to connect to what they are struggling with and explore activities and coping skills that they can apply to all areas of their lives.
