Help me give my students the opportunity to expand on topics being discussed in class through independent reading. They will read books like Flight and Island of the Blue Dolphin in order to obtain more support.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My new students are a lively bunch, and even more importantly, are students that are motivated to learn. Many are artistic, but are also serious about their academics as they strive to succeed and to surpass those who came before them.
As a school located in New York, my school serves a diverse groups of students who reflect a wide range of economic status and include English Language Learners, students with learning disabilities, and students not yet at appropriate reading levels.
That being said, they are eager and ready to compete academically with the rest of the country and need the materials to do so. These students are highly intelligent and have so much to offer!
My Project
Every six weeks, we begin a new topic in Humanities class and read a new novel. This year, I'd like to provide my students with a chance to select an independent reading book related to each of those topics for their literature circles.
These books will not only provide students with an opportunity to acquire more information about the given topic, but it will also give them a chance to interact with their peers in discussing the books of their choice during the literature circles.
Students will also become more independent readers as they will be creating their own reading schedules and discussion questions.
