My Students

Our classroom community is made up of a diverse group of kindergarten students who vary in ethnicity, home language, socioeconomic status and learning style. As teachers, we are committed to creating an equitable learning environment in which all children can grow academically and socially.

In addition to our rigorous curriculum, we also support our students' learning through project based learning.

These projects help us demonstrate our learning in ways that are meaningful to us. Students are given the opportunity to direct their own learning and are empowered to express their understanding in their unique ways.

My Project

The kindergarten students in our classroom have been working hard all year to increase their independence. From stepping into leadership roles and helping others, to building our reading, writing and math muscles, building independence has been a consistent focus of our classroom.

Math and Literacy Stations have been a key structure in supporting students as they gain academic independence, and the tools for this project will amplify students' ability to navigate through stations without the help of an adult.

Plastic latch boxes will store station manipulatives and games, poly binder pockets will store books that match each students' independent reading level, and the zip pouches will store station materials for pocket chart activities and sorts. Heavy duty dry erase pockets can be used for writing and math practice, while magnetic tens frames will support students' ability to compose and decompose numbers to ten.

As a new teacher in her very first classroom, the materials in this project contribute to a classroom structure that supports students' growth in math and literacy. These materials will help our youngest learners gain independence which will lead to lifelong love of learning and success as future scholars!
