Supporting Every Learner: Flexible Seating for an Inclusive Classroom

My Project

A Space to Belong, A Place to Learn

I’m a 5th-grade math and science teacher in an inclusive classroom where every student is encouraged to learn in the way that works best for them.

Over the years, I’ve noticed more and more of my students prefer working on the floor—some like to stretch out, some curl up, and others gather together in small groups. I always tell them, “everyone is different,” and “teamwork makes the dream work.”

Right now, we have one well-loved bench that students constantly gravitate toward during small group learning. It’s become a favorite spot—but it's old, worn, and honestly, not quite up to code anymore.

I’m hoping to add three soft, hexagon-shaped stools to our classroom to give my students more flexible, safe, and comfortable seating options. These will be used on our classroom rug for small group lessons, and students can move them around the room to create spaces where they feel most focused and calm.

These seats aren't just furniture—they're a way to show my students that their needs matter, their comfort matters, and their voice in how they learn matters. Your support will help all of my students—especially those with IEPs—feel empowered, seen, and ready to thrive.
