Supporting Emotional Wellness: Help Build Our Chill Out Zone

Help me give my students a "chill-out zone" with a cozy rug, comfortable seating, fidget tools, and calming activities so they have a supportive space to regulate emotions, reset, and return to learning focused and ready.

My Project

I love how resilient, curious, and full of potential my middle school students are. They come to class every day carrying a wide range of emotions and experiences, and I admire their willingness to learn and grow—even when it's hard. Like many adolescents (and some adults, too!), my students are learning how to navigate their emotions, build self-awareness, and stay focused in the classroom.

That’s why I’m creating a Chill Out Zone—a calming corner in our classroom, commonly known as a calm-down corner, where students can take a short break, regulate their emotions, and return to learning with a clearer mind.

This designated space will feature a cozy rug and soft seating to create a welcoming and safe atmosphere. Fidget tools and sensory items will help students release anxiety or restlessness in healthy ways. Mindfulness cards and calming visuals will guide students in breathing exercises or quiet reflection.

With your support, this Chill Out Zone will become a vital part of our classroom environment—supporting emotional wellness, building self-regulation skills, and helping students thrive both academically and socially.
