Help me give my students the access and appreciation to learn about different cultures and people. Help them become culturally aware and diverse in order to be accepting of others and gain knowledge of others.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The children at our school are truly amazing. They are faced with many challenges but are always ready to tackle the tasks that await them with smiles on their faces.
This year our school has several non English speaking students and students with visual impairments.
My students come to school every day prepared to learn and meet new challenges. They represent different cultures, however stand together as a school community. Our children and staff are dedicated to their education, but sometimes are met with the difficulties of lack of resources.
My Project
Hello, and thank you for considering my classroom. I work with Title I students in Williamsburg, Brooklyn teaching historical time periods and cultural connection through literature. I also incorporate restorative justice and acceptance for all cultures and religions. My students are wonderful curious boys and girls who love learning about historical time periods that have had a strong influences in cultural and social acceptance. Some topics discussed are Japanese internment camps, immigration time periods such as farmer workers, European, and various others. We also learn and explore Canada, focusing in on the cultural genocide of the aboriginal people. We discuss and learn about the importance of black lives matter and how it affects our community. My students love to learn and research however our resources are limited. Students need these books in order to make connections and better understand historical time periods, not only in school but also as a resources for at home learning.
