My Students
My students are superheroes! They are between the ages of 3-6 in a preschool and kindergarten classroom for children with Autism. Many of the students I work with have complex communication needs and use Augmentative and Alternative Communication such as picture exchange books, and communication apps such as Cough Drop on iPads. Students need consistent access to their communication devices to so they always have a voice! Through COVID-19, access to communication supports has been extremely difficulty to make sure students have access to AAC when completing learning through online, in-person, and hybrid approaches. We not only have the responsibility for access at school, but now that learning is at home, that they have access at home as well!
My Project
The requested resources will provide us with the materials needed to support communication of all students using a variety of modalities (iPads, picture exchange, picture supports for verbal communication). We must provide access to students at school and at home for consistency and access! Communication is foundational for success (social, emotional, academic, etc.). Picture exchange books can be sent home to parents and the same symbols/pictures used at school can be sent home for learning to happen in light of COVID-19.
