Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Studying an instrument at the middle level is an experience that every child should have the opportunity to do, especially since many have started in elementary school. Unfortunately, some instruments (especially cellos and basses) are just too big for the bus and too expensive to have multiples of. Our school has an inventory of instruments to lend to such students. However, this inventory is aging and the cost of maintaining those instruments is not a priority when it comes to school-wide budgeting. This project is aimed at filling that need at least partially, starting with the most cost-prohibitive instruments: cellos and basses.
My Project
My cello students need instruments in good working condition. Over the years, the existing inventory of instruments has deteriorated and many have been taken out of commission. Since these are school instruments, they are not worth the cost of repair. Therefore, we must buy new ones. A good instrument makes a huge difference in the progress, success, and motivation of a student to learn music. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to learn to play on equipment that does not operate properly. (It's hard enough to learn an instrument...even when it's good!) These two instruments get us closer to the goal of restocking our inventory.
