Support Students in Small Group Learning

My students need a good teacher table for small group learning, and access to a nearby whiteboard in order to support their learning this school year.

My Students

My students are second graders in a large, urban, low-income public school with a diverse population, including over 50% English language learners and 45 different languages spoken in our school. Our students come from all over the world, and we have a large immigrant and refugee population. We are a PreK-8th grade school, and many of our families are with us for their whole elementary education. Because of this, we are able to develop strong neighborhood ties. Additionally, our teachers have been here for many years, and at this point we have teachers now who were once students of other teachers! We are truly a community with a long history!

My students work hard every day to learn and grow; they are funny, clever, curious, and spontaneous, and I want to give them as many opportunities as possible with their peers to experience immersive, hands-on learning opportunities.

We incorporate a multisensory approach to learning, and in addition to hands-on learning, we are a one-to-one school so that every student has access to technology every day. Our staff works to build stronger literacy and science programs every year to further advance our students' access to the world.

My Project

My students benefit from primarily small group learning in order to maximize opportunities for repeated practice with new skills, reading comprehension, and guided math. Working in small groups at a teacher table allows more shy and/or quiet students an opportunity to speak up confidently and encourage risk-taking. The tabletop easel allows students to access a whiteboard with teacher while working on vocabulary, spelling patterns, and planning for writing.

The kidney table and tabletop easel will support my students in small group learning as well as group projects.

It will give them a space to work closely with a teacher so they can receive feedback and support while learning.
