My Project

According to a National Geographic-Roper poll of 18-24 year olds, Americans struggle with geography compared to their peers in other countries. As a high school social studies teacher, I am constantly trying to supplement my lessons with geography activities because I know how important laying a foundation is for their future success as adults. When I teach about immigration pathways to the United States, we learn about the waves of climate refugees that are beginning to leave low-lying South Pacific islands, particularly in Micronesia. The problem is that students struggle to conceptualize where these places are.

One of the most useful geography teaching tools I have ever had is also one of the simplest: a globe.
