My Students

My students are made up of talented artists, determined athletes, caring special needs students, kids who love their family and Star Wars, and many others, which make up our Visual Arts classes, mixing grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 as well as Art I, Art II, and Art III into the same semester-long time periods.

I love how some students hang out in my classroom during their break times because they feel comfortable and happy there, or they're excited to work on their latest project.

The diversity makes life challenging but fun, with different ages, genders, races, interests, and abilities all working together. These children full of our school pride truly are our future!

My Project

As a 30-year educator, I've seen firsthand how art bolsters creativity and confidence in all students, especially those who have little else beneficial in their school lives. With tabletop easels, our students could get a true perspective on painting/drawing and experience how professionals have made art throughout history. When painting a still life or following a step-by-step demonstration, angles are more accurate with easels, plus some students benefit from standing to work because of medical conditions. As a bonus, we could even invite parents and community members in for "Paint and Sip Soda" evenings. We can generally afford paint, paper, and canvases, but I've done fundraisers at school and tried other grants but haven't been able to get wooden easels, which would last for years. I'm hoping Donors Choose can be a solution. Future Bob Rosses need these easels!
