Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Funding for this project would mean so much. As a teacher for 17 years in a public school district in the Bronx, I can attest to the many obstacles my students face towards academic and life success. Most of them live and go to school in a food desert, where quality food options are few and far between. In addition, many of them face the daily stressors and traumas of urban poverty, family dysfunction and/or economic uncertainty.
My amazing, resilient and hard-working students would receive the snacks they need to motivate and energize them in the most critical weeks at the end of long school year: state tests, final exams, credit accumulation and the final push towards graduation.
The fact that they still face each day with sense of hope and positivity likewise inspires me to be the best teacher they can experience. When my students receive snacks, they are always humble and grateful. Giving my students quality snacks does more than just feed them; it also deepens the bond between teacher and student and makes the school day not just about education, but also about providing them with a positive adult role-model and source of hope at a critical stage in their lives and social development into adults. Please help me to provide them with all of this and more by funding this project!
