Many of our lessons include individualized technology based learning; such as targeted math practice through adaptive programs and interactive science simulations and online labs. With headphones, students can fully engage with instructional step by step problem solving, and lab demonstrations at their own pace without being distracted by the noise of a busy classroom. This has been especially helpful for students who need to pause, replay, or slow down instruction to build understanding, as well as multilingual learners who benefit from hearing academic vocabulary clearly. \r\n\r\nWhat excites students the most about the headphones (besides their bright colors!) is the sense of independence and control they now have over their learning. The feel more focused and \"in their own zone,\" which has increased both their confidence and persistence when working through challenging material. Students who previously struggled to stay engaged, particularly those with attention challenges or gaps in foundational skills, have shown noticeable growth without feeling overwhelmed or self-conscious. As a NEST and Horizon school, many of our students are on the autism spectrum, and the headphones have been particularly impactful for them by reducing sensory overload and helping them regulate their focus in a busy classroom environment. I've seen several students who were hesitant to participate begin to take ownership of their learning, eagerly using online tools in school and at home to practice and improve. The headphones not only supported academic growth but have also helped create a more inclusive and empowering learning environment where every student can access content in a way that works best for them.","fullyFundedDate":1767909963137,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-independent-learning-in-a-dig/9963434/","projectTitle":"Supporting Independent Learning in a Digital Age","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spears","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5457765_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1545412184812","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mskspears"},{"teacherId":10301494,"projectId":9792655,"letterContent":"My students were truly grateful to use the lab materials that you all generously provided for them. I saw them taking their classmate's temperature and the water temperature with the infrared thermometer, students using a stopwatch for the first time, students having fun putting their hand in the dissection pan that was used to hold the ice cold water, and some students were writing down their notes on the post its. My students were all excited the first time I introduced them to the lab materials. A lot of them never used an infrared thermometer or a stopwatch, so I was glad to provide them with that experience. The next steps for the students is to answer analysis questions based on the lab they did today. They will be doing that tomorrow or on the Monday for when they return after the break. They will also continue doing more labs utilizing the materials.","fullyFundedDate":1762215248808,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-labs/9792655/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Labs","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10301494_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759647730405","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10301494"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5918","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":349,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":64,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.2,"schoolId":5918,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Millennium Art Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Millennium Art Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/millennium-art-academy/5918"}
