Most of our female population do not participate in physical activities inside or outside of school. My goal is to introduce volleyball, improve knowledge of the sport and develop the skills necessary to compete.
Our Title I charter school welcomes students in the grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
Many of our students do not participate in physical activities inside or outside our school. Our parents are primarily in a low socioeconomic status and cannot provide the means for their child to participate in extracurricular activities within the community. Through constant fundraising our school is able to waive or offer a discount rate for sport fees. This year our student interest in sports has grown tremendously. We are now part of the FHSSA and will be competing officially. In order to give my students the best training possible, we need the best equipment possible like balls and a net storage rack. Through competition we hope to change the culture of our school for the better.
This activity will take place outside of the classroom. These girls will learn the rules and regulations of playing volleyball. They will also learn the following skills, serving, passing, hitting, blocking, setting and defense. On the days we practice these girls will be responsible for setting up the volleyball court and beginning warm-ups on their own, but lead by the captain and co-captain.
Youth sports can have many benefits for young people.
Some include learning the sport they play, understanding what it takes to compete and the enjoyment of being part of a team. Playing sports also teaches youngsters about responsibility and being part of a team -- the importance of teamwork. Since participating in youth sports is a privilege, children have to earn that right by performing well in school.
