My students are amazing examples of what our future generation holds. No matter where they come from or what they are going through, the students on my team come to school and do the best they can do every day.
My players are hardworking, positive, and resilient 7th and 8th grade girls at a Title I school in one of the fastest growing cities in North Carolina.
The city remains, however, hindered by socioeconomic inequity and barriers to upward social mobility. They need many things to make them as successful and competitive as other upper-class public and private schools in the surrounding area. They need materials that match their competitors and challenge them to strive for success--both on the field and off!
My Project
For the past two years as assistant coach for the girls' soccer team we have tried to make due with limited soccer resources. We shared around 3-4 soccer balls for an entire team of 17+ girls and borrowed additional supplies such as cones and pinnies from the Physical Education Department.
As head coach this year, I want to provide sufficient sports supplies for my players so that they can adequately compete with other school teams with the same resources.
I wish to have enough soccer balls so players can hone in on their individual skills without worrying about taking opportunity away from their teammates.
Our team plays with heart. Many come with no prior experience playing soccer formally. But with hard work and effort, they are continuously among the best in the league! With your support, we can continue this spirit and thrive in the upcoming season.
