My Project
My Title I "firsties" are very hands-on learners. They enjoy project based learning projects which engage them in research, cross-curricular learning and artistic expression. The powers of both of choice and creativity fuel my classroom. Our problem is that our campus die cut machine doesn't offer the selection that we would like to meet our diverse needs across our curriculum.
My students enjoy CREATING a habitat in science, or 3D shapes that align with our math problems; the Cricut Maker 3 machine and heat press bundle will make this a reality for them with unlimited possibilities.
These activities engage students in the learning and make the standards "come alive" in a more tangible manner. In Social Studies, students could create replicas of historical items that they then then research and write about. The power of "realia" or using real objects that symbolize historical objects or other objects is a very powerful instructional strategy. When students research and create during the scope of their project, the learning is more accessible, pertinent, and therefore powerful.
The Cricut Maker 3 will also be utilized for classroom and hallway displays to display student work. Anchor charts that summarize new content will also be created to help students refer back to and scaffold their learning.
We would also like to create grade-level field trip shirts to differentiate our students from other campuses. This will create an additional layer of safety for our students, as well as make the projects more budget-friendly. The Cricuit Maker 3 and heat press will facilitate this project as well as other holiday or themed campus events.
