Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The 25 Blue Jays at our school are full of curiosity about the world around them. What we lack in resources and materials, we more than make up with our enthusiasm and passion for learning to make our brains bigger!

Separating a challenging home life from an academic environment can be difficult for some of our kiddos.

In order to foster a welcoming and safe school, it is imperative that our school remain an engaging environment in which students are invested in their development. The enhanced learning experiences offered by educators as a result of opportunities granted through DonorsChoose makes this vision become a reality.

My Project

This is the project nobody thought to prepare for: distance learning. Not only is the COVID-19 crisis disrupting society as we know it, but also the education of our young scholars at a critical phase of their development. As we make the transition from the traditional classroom to online learning platforms, it is imperative that educators remain ready and prepared to encounter the ever-changing path ahead.

Although the future may be uncertain at this moment, one thing is clear - students are our priority.

By being able to progress monitor students on a regular basis, students are then able to set individual goals in content areas in spite of the distance. Extra technology - memory drives and video making hardware- will allow students to apply reading strategies with their teacher in real time through video conferencing. Moreover, through the use of this technology , students can continue to hold onto familiar faces and routines - a small act that can make a huge impact in both the socio-emotional and academic development of our scholars. With your help, my online classroom will be much better suited to serve the needs of my students in spite of the distance and obstacles - thank you.
