Support Oakland First Graders with Balanced Literacy!
My students need 25 book bins. Staying organized while they read at their own independent reading level will allow their literacy skills to take off!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are beginning to realize that books allow us to explore the world without ever leaving the classroom.
I teach at a school where 95.2% of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 67.7% are English Learners.
Only 35% of adults living within my school's zip code have graduated from high school. The students I work with every day battle tremendous challenges, but they are incredibly bright and resilient and many of them have made tremendous progress this year despite the challenges they face.
My Project
My students need 25 book bins. Staying organized while they read at their own independent reading level will allow their literacy skills to take off! My students will soon go "book shopping" for books at their own independent reading level, and it is essential that our library is organized to facilitate this process. Students will have their own bins to store their books, which they will treat as their own "mini library".
These materials will allow my students to organize their books.
Reading every day at their own independent reading level will ultimately allow them to develop critical literacy skills and take off as readers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
