My Students

My classroom is filled with 7th and 8th graders who are eager to learn science. This year my school has created a new elective class schedule and I have had an abundance of students sign up for my science electives. These courses include food science, STEAM, and Environmental Science.

My students are very excited to have the opportunity to explore science beyond their required science class - I can't wait for this first year of classes to spark excitement for years to come!

My Project

My project includes items to be used for my new environmental science class, food science class, and general 7th and 8th grade science classes. I have included a small portable greenhouse to house seedlings that students will begin growing in the spring in their environmental science classes. During this class, we will discuss many topics, but I am very excited to offer a horticulture unit where my students can learn with hands-on planting.

During my mater's degree, I completed a great deal of research on the topic of mindfulness.

When students enter my classroom, the lights are dim with a few colored lamps and a relaxing nature video projected on my Smartboard. These first few minutes of class allow students time to destress from their previous class or the noisy hallway. This allows students to feel more peaceful at the start of my lessons. Students love my mindful minutes time and enjoy the low light and environment of my classroom. I think the galactic light from my wish list would be a great addition to the back of my classroom where it is a bit darker and the cosmic design makes it the perfect addition to a science classroom.

I have also included some disposable gloves for students because whether we are dissecting frogs or diving into a food science lab, we need to remember safety first!
