My Project

We are a Title One school located in Los Angeles, CA. Our outdoor space is a converted parking lot which is ninety percent covered in asphalt. We recently received a unique grant that brings environmental stewardship and learning to the school community! By fulfilling our DonorsChoose project, you will be helping over four hundred and fifty students experience the joys of learning outdoors! As an under-resourced school, we desperately need supplies to help us care for our growing plants.

Our students love to examine decomposed bugs, pollinators and all of the different things we have growing in our urban gardens.

Magnifying glasses, rulers, seeds and watering cans will help us to examine nature more thoroughly. Students also work hard everyday making sure that all food from lunch goes into our green bin or compost pile. Trash grabbers help us to fish out things like apple cores from the milk bucket when diverting waste. Since the start of the school year, we’ve already diverted nearly five thousand pounds of organic food waste from the landfill! And since students can earn green tickets for any environmental action they take at the school, we’ve asked for some small incentive prizes and stickers to gift the students in thanks. A laminator will help us to be able to make seasonal garden signage more durable! Shelving, gardening tools and plant labels will keep our areas organized.
