Support Future Chefs by Providing Essential Culinary Classroom Kitchen Supplies!
Help me give my students gain culinary and catering skills with supplies like cups, plates, sushi-making mats, chopsticks, and popsicle makers to create dishes and treats.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My high school Culinary Arts students will use sushi-making mats, sauce bowls, plates, cups, and popsicle molds to explore diverse culinary techniques, practice measuring skills, and learn cultural traditions while mastering practical skills like food preparation, presentation, and nutrition. These tools will allow students to create sushi rolls, portion sauces, plate meals, and make healthy frozen treats. By engaging in hands-on learning, they’ll develop an understanding of how food reflects cultural identity, sustains health, and brings people together.
The requested items will enhance students’ learning by providing essential tools to execute authentic recipes, improve presentation skills, and foster creativity.
Sushi mats will help students learn the precise techniques of rolling sushi, while sauce bowls, plates, and cups will improve plating and portion control. Popsicle molds will allow students to explore creating healthy desserts, incorporating fruits and nutritious ingredients.
My goals are to equip students with real-world culinary skills, instill a deep appreciation for diverse cuisines, and prepare them for potential careers in the food and hospitality industries. Additionally, I aim to cultivate teamwork, creativity, and the confidence needed to succeed in professional kitchens.
My students are a passionate and creative bunch! Despite limited resources, they consistently rise to the occasion by preparing meals for school visitors, catering events for clubs and classes, and working alongside visiting chefs. Our school is fortunate to have six old (but functioning) kitchens, which my classes transform into vibrant learning hubs. My students embrace every opportunity to apply their skills, whether it’s learning about hospitality, exploring global flavors, or serving meals that bring joy to others.
