My students need a volleyball for every two players. Currently our school does not have any official volleyballs. We also need a cart to hold everything for storage and practice.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyone deserves a chance to play sports. Unfortunately, our school shares our gym with the two other schools in the building and gym time is extremely limited. Last year we added our first ever girls basketball team, but our females need more options!
Our female students have been asking for a volleyball team for a long time.
They love playing it in P.E and they've been asking for years to have their own volleyball team. Unfortunately, they only have 2 P.E classes a week and their volleyball unit is over. Our young ladies need more opportunities to be a part of our athletic school culture.
My Project
Our students will use these volleyballs and ball cart to start the first volleyball program at Bronx Park. Unlike the only previous opportunity available, a basketball team, this one will be dedicated to female athletes interested in volleyball. This will allow the young women who do not play basketball, an opportunity to participate in our school athletic culture.
Even the promise of a program to come has made a difference to our potential student-athletes.
Athletics is a wonderful opportunity to develop determination and build relationships with coaches and teachers. Your donation will provide an additional hook for students to become invested in their health and their education. Our young women deserve a chance to play and your donation will be a part of making that happen. We have over 90 young women signed up to play volleyball. It is a staggering amount and we are trying to get every girl that wants to play a chance.
