This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve as the Dean of students for grade 6, 7, and 8. We are a Title 1 school and the students we serve come from low-income families. It is my priority to serve our students' mental, emotional, and physical needs. Our students require basic school needs in order to be prepared for what the school year has to offer. This is not easy for all of our families.

Our students deserve to be prepared to face a world that is ever changing.

We want to ensure our students do not have to worry about not having, ensure our students are not experiencing food insecurity, and ensure they're given what is necessary for proper hygiene. We treat our students like they are our own children because we really are a family school.

My Project

Throughout the school, I come across students who do not have the proper supplies necessary to meet the needs of their classes. Students require notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, post-it notes, glue, etc. Many of our students are from low-income families and are afraid to ask for help. I am a beacon for help at our school and I would love to have these supplies readily available for students whenever they need. Being a dean does not mean I just deal with discipline. It means I help our students whenever they are in need.

No matter what circumstances they face, students should always have what they need.

That is my goal and with these supplies; it allows me to continue to provide to students in need.
